Jokowi's Government Import Policy, Prabowo Returns Criticism
Kolom Media. Candidate for Presidential Number 02, Prabowo Subianto again highlighted the government's food import policy, and the welfare of farmers who did not improve. This was revealed by Prabowo when he attended the highlight of the International Disability Day held at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday.
Prabowo again accused the food import policy of being the main cause of no improvement in welfare for farmers.
"I don't know who is responsible, I am surprised, but this government actually allows food imports at the time of this harvest, I do not understand," Prabowo said.
Prabowo said, So far, farmer groups have worked hard to produce Indonesian food needs. However, the government did not provide protection against farmers.
"Our farmer groups, our farmers, those who produce food for us, they are not helped and protected at this time. They cannot live properly," Prabowo said at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel.
In fact, he said, farmers now cannot get big results when entering the harvest period in their agricultural fields. Prabowo also admitted he was surprised by the current system of agricultural management. Because the import action is often carried out by the government when the farmers enter the harvest period.
The government, said the former Kopassus secretary general, openly gave import licenses for food commodities, such as rice and corn with a high value.
Prabowo then told his experiences while visiting East and Central Java. At that time he heard a lot of complaints from sugar cane farmers who felt sad because their income did not improve.
"I'm just from East Java, the sugar cane farmers there are very sad, I'm from Klaten, rice farmers are very sad, tobacco farmers are very sad, everywhere our people don't feel there is a government that protects them, brothers and sisters," said he.
This is the second time during Prabowo's campaign to bring up the issue of government food imports. In November, Prabowo promised to bring Indonesian people to stand on their own feet by running food, energy and water self-sufficiency.
"I testify here that God willing, I will accept the mandate of the Indonesian people, I will make Indonesia stand on our own feet!" Prabowo said in the Declaration of the Commanding Ulama of Prabowo Sandi (Koppasandi), at GOR Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Jakarta, on November 4.
In another sense, Prabowo said he would not import either in the food, energy and water sectors.
"We will not import anything, brothers and sisters! We must and we are capable of self-sufficiency in food! Able! We must also be able and capable of self-supporting energy, self-sufficiency in fuel," he said at that time.
